Troubleshooting: Installation issues on Windows

You can troubleshoot issues that you encounter while you install or uninstall HCL OneTest™ Server.

The installation process is interrupted and re-installation of the software fails

When the installation of HCL OneTest Server is interrupted and you are unable to reinstall the software, you must remove the previous installation data on your workstation.

About this task

If the installation process is interrupted, you cannot reinstall the software until you remove the previous installation data that was saved when you had installed HCL OneTest Server.

Procedure

To delete the installation directory on your workstation:

  1. Run the following command by using the command prompt:
    regedit
  2. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\ in the Registry Editor window.
  3. Delete the registry key named HCL OneTest Server.
  4. Change the current directory to the installation directory in the command prompt by entering the following command:
    cd <directory path>\<installation folder>

    For example, cd C:\Program Files\HCL\OneTest

  5. Execute the following commands:
    • ./shutdown.sh
    • rm-images.sh --confirm
  6. Delete the installation directory.

HCL OneTest Server does not start post installation

After you complete the installation of HCL OneTest Server in the GUI mode by using the stand-alone installer, if the server URL is not generated at the end of the installation process, a message is displayed to check the error logs.

About this task

To resolve the errors, you must check the error logs, fix the issue and reinstall the software. The error logs that are stored at <install-dir>/Logs display the error about the Docker. The following error message is displayed in the log file:
Starting 308fd6fe96a8_onetest_env_1 ... error
ERROR: for 308fd6fe96a8_onetest_env_1 Cannot start service env: error while creating mount source path '/host_mnt/c/Program Files/HCL/onetest': mkdir /host_mnt/c: file exists
ERROR: for env Cannot start service env: error while creating mount source path '/host_mnt/c/Program Files/HCL/onetest': mkdir /host_mnt/c: file exists
Encountered errors while bringing up the project.
Error: Failed to prepare for startup, check above.

Procedure

To resolve the errors and install the software successfully:

  1. Uninstall HCL OneTest Server installed on your workstation.
    Attention: You must select Yes when the installer prompts you to confirm about removing data on the Docker volume.
  2. Restart Docker.
  3. Reinstall HCL OneTest Server.

Backed-up data is not restored during the installation process

When the backed-up data is not restored while installing HCL OneTest Server, you must delete the existing data stored in the Docker volumes.

About this task

You must remove all of the data from the Docker volumes that was not deleted during the previous uninstallation process.

Procedure

  1. Unlock the Docker volume by entering the following command:
    docker rm $(docker ps -a -f status=exited -q)
  2. Remove the existing data from the Docker volume by entering the following command:
    docker volume rm onetest_EC_<id>
  3. Restart the installation of HCL OneTest Server and browse the backed-up file to restore the data.
